In 2003, when I was living in Seattle I saw Smoosh at the Showbox opening for Sleater-Kinney. The crowd, not knowing what to expect from these two sisters, who were 9 and 11 years-old at the time, were quickly won over and impressed.

There was a woman in her 20s a few feet away from me who, slightly intimidated at how accomplished these two young girls were lamented aloud, “What have I done with my life?”

As a fellow 20-something at the time, I could relate. “It’s not too late,” I offered.

Well years later, here I am taking my own advice.
